Hype. There is a word that gets thrown around alot in the media world, whether it be video games, films or television programmes. Avengers Assemble (or The Avengers) has been a hype behemoth, since the first Iron Man film and the first cameo appearance by Nick Fury (played superbly by Samuel L.) every film has been like a tiny teaser of the Avengers pie. Four slices later and we now have a seemingly action packed superhero pie on our plates and what a meal it is indeed.
“This film has no character development” is what my friend who saw the film with me said. He was right, with all the individual films and backstories that each superhero has it would be near impossible for Joss Whedon to introduce anybody new and important without taking from our established cast. If you have seen all the films leading up to this event (which my companion had not) you will have a place in your heart for this film.
No matter what reviews tell you this is a good or bad film ultimately (if you are a normal human being) you are going to watch this film anyway (and enjoy it). Loki is being a bad guy, really bad, so bad in face Nick Fury has to round up (or Assemble) our heroes “The Avengers”. The film focuses on getting them together and making them work together to overcome the very bad, bad guy. Of course with all these “main men” working together egos collide and just because they all fight the good fight does not necessary they get on with the other good guys.
The acting in this film is top notch with everyone reprising their roles and bringing a more aggressive side to them, I mean they are fighting to save the world after all. Mark Ruffalo starring as the new Bruce Banner/Hulk does a good job portraying a guy who has to stay calm (and then failing) throughout the whole film and is on par with Edward Norton and shits all the performance of Eric Bana in the first Hulk film.
This film is packed full to the brim with action and comedic moments from all characters but not overpowered by one nor the other and just feels like one big roller coaster ride that never has the boring queue. The child in me absolutely loved this film and the adult in me agreed with him, you know a film is good when simple moments like Iron Man and Thor just talking to one another makes you grin from ear to ear.
So yes if you absolutely have to, go and see this film. I loved it.
